Silence Is Not Always Golden

Years ago, I joined a team with an anonymous feedback channel. Out of 150 people, only 2 comments came in over 3 months.
Something was off. If people do not speak up even anonymously, trust is broken.
Restoring it takes time and intent:
Articulate team values and live by them.
Show authentic leadership — admit mistakes, share reasoning.
Reward objections and dissent, instead of punishing them.
Strong teams start with trust. Without it, performance is an illusion. And if silence is the norm, do not assume it means all is well — it might mean the opposite.
