You are now probably familiar with my passion for Human Leadership and my innate belief expressed in my tagline “Hard Work Got You Here, Heart Work Gets You Further”.
I recently read a research paper from Gartner entitled "To Create More 'Human' Leaders, You Need to Treat Leaders Like Humans, Too." which attracted my attention as it was at the crossroad of Leadership and Behavioral change
🔍 As I delved into the findings, a narrative unfolded, illustrating a paradigm shift in leadership dynamics: 90% of HR leaders are now championing a leadership approach that is unmistakably more human-centric. Authenticity, empathy, and adaptability are not just buzzwords but the cornerstones of modern leadership.
💡 I was pleased to find new evidence that show the tangible impact of 'human leadership.' Leaders who embody these principles don't just inspire; they ignite a profound sense of loyalty, engagement, and well-being among their teams. Statistics speak volumes: employees under 'human' leaders report a 12 percentage point increase in intent to stay, a 37% boost in engagement, and a 30% rise in well-being.
🤔 Yet, it's disheartening to learn that 28% of leaders question the significance of human leadership in achieving business goals. This skepticism is compounded by a lack of clarity on how to embody such leadership, with 43% unsure of its implementation without incurring perceived risks.
🌱 To bridge this gap, the conversation shifts towards actionable strategies:
- Share the voices of employees directly with leader, and not through the intermediary of HR
- Highlight human leadership traits of other leaders whom they see as effective and successful and whose perspective is relevant to their own roles.
- Help leaders understand their personal fears so they can take ownership of their behaviors and exhibit it
- Reinforce leaders strong decision abilities to help navigate ambiguous cases instead of providing obsolete guides
This is true everywhere and especially in the IT sector. How do we reconcile the technological with the human, ensuring our leadership not only delivers results but also nurtures our teams' hearts and minds? Could embracing vulnerability and empathy be the key to unlocking unparalleled innovation and commitment?
💬 I'm eager to hear your thoughts. Have you experienced the transformative power of human leadership within your teams? Share your insights or repost this reflection to foster a broader discussion on evolving leadership in IT.
