Mia dreaded her 1:1s with the boss.

She had questions, but hesitated to cross.

Would he be okay meeting more often?

Her assertiveness was yet to soften.

I challenged her to change her request,

To speak with clarity and confidence at best.

Instead of asking, “Would you be okay?”

She said, “We should meet monthly—starting today.”

That shift in tone was all it took,

Her boss agreed without a second look.

Assertive leadership is about balancing confidence with empathy, ensuring decisions are communicated clearly while still respecting diverse perspectives within a team. This approach helps build trust and encourages accountability without creating unnecessary conflict. These leadership principles are often developed further in an advanced leadership seminar & course for executives in Zurich, Switzerland, where executives refine their ability to lead with clarity and impact.
