Yesterday’s session reminded me why I love teaching influence.

Key points participants are taking back to their roles:

  • Influence is an exchange — Offer what matters to them, not just what matters to you.

  • Timing is strategic — A “yes” today might be a “no” next month; the reverse is also true.

  • Alliances are invisible before they are visible — The strongest support often starts quietly.

One participant shared how they had been pushing their proposal for months with no traction — until they realized the decision hinged on a stakeholder they had never spoken to. By shifting their focus, the door opened.

Influence is not luck. It is intentional, patient, and built on relationships.
