Houston, do you hear me?🌌

Ever found yourself metaphorically adrift in space, sending signals back to Earth, only to wonder if anyone's really listening? 🛰️ In a recent coaching session, my coachee recounted an experience where her undisputed expertise was overshadowed by her own boss, leaving her feeling diminished, sidelined, and pushed into a corner focused on execution rather than strategy.

This misalignment isn't about right or wrong; it's about understanding and adapting. I often refer to the DISC model for its elegant simplicity in categorizing communication styles into four: action-oriented ("let’s do it now"), accuracy-focused ("let’s do it right"), supportive ("let’s do it with care" ), and collaborative ("let’s do it together"). Under stress, we might cling to our default style, but imagine the power in fluidly shifting to speak in the style our audience needs to hear.

My coachee, armed with expertise, defaulted to a precision-first approach, clashing with her boss's action-first mindset. This disconnect led to frustration on both sides, a perceived lack of confidence, and, ultimately, missed opportunities for collaboration.

💡 Imagine if, instead, she had adapted her communication style and proactively provided a list of next steps. The meeting could have turned out completely differently, don’t you think?

🌟 Learnings: It wasn't a question of doubting her abilities but a gap in communication style. Tailoring your approach isn't about changing your message but altering its packaging. It's an exercise in empathy and strategy, crucial for leaders and influencers in any field.

🤗 Remember, heart works get you further. It's not just what you know; it's how you share it that defines your journey and impact.
