Olivia* reached out in 2021, just after the COVID pandemic. Originally from Canada, she was sent for work to Germany. She had just joined a large company in Switzerland and signed a new job contract, only to realize afterward that her contract prevented her from relocating to Switzerland. She ended up living in a village on the border in Germany, feeling isolated with no local network and no possibility to thrive in a city like Zurich that she was attracted to.
Using coaching, over 12 months, we completely transformed her. Here’s how:
*Rebuilding Energy and Well-being:
Olivia had to drive 2 hours to the closest office, and the company wasn’t covering overnight stays.Â
She felt depleted. We identified that it was crucial for her to change her situation. Olivia decided to pay for overnight stays occasionally, which rapidly improved her well-being. She later secured a temporary apartment closer to the office, optimizing her time and enabling her to have a social life again.
*Engaging in Passionate Work:
Olivia’s job was very sales-oriented, but she had a technical background and a passion for innovation. By being more present at the office, she connected with colleagues and offered her help. When a new innovation project team was created, they wanted her on it. Although it was part-time and on top of her daily duties, it reignited her passion and she proved her value.
*Transitioning to a Permanent Role:
The temporary gig in the innovation team eventually led to something more permanent. By then, Olivia had allies in the innovation group who were well-connected. Despite the challenging conversations with her management, she played her cards right and secured a role in innovation for 50% of her time.
Today, Olivia is not the same person. She has transformed into a cheerful, beaming, and creative woman, thriving in her career.
