Why Are You Even in This Meeting?

Don’t hide—I see you.
📱 Scrolling your phone.
💻 Half-listening while typing emails.
😴 Nodding along but not really present.
We all do it sometimes. And yet... if you’re not engaged, why are you there?
Let’s be honest:
❌ Too many meetings lack clear purpose.
❌ Attendees don’t know their role.
❌ Multitasking makes everything less effective.
Here’s my rule:
Be either FULL ON or FULL OFF.
✔ If you’re IN, be present. Engage, contribute.
✔ If you’re OUT, step away. Don’t just sit there passively.
The problem isn’t just you. It’s bad meeting culture.
🔹 If you’re running a meeting—define the goal, clarify who needs to be there.
🔹 If you’re invited—ask why you’re needed and what’s expected of you.
🔹 If a meeting feels pointless—speak up, suggest async alternatives.
Next time you open your laptop in a meeting to “work on something else,” ask yourself: Why am I even here?
What’s the worst meeting habit you’ve seen? Let’s fix this together. 👇
