In a recent coaching session with a promising young manager, I encountered a familiar yet profound misconception: the belief that your results should speak for themselves. It's a comforting thought, but not entirely realistic in today's competitive landscape. 🚀
The truth? It's not just about your results, but whether the right people see and recognize them. Many of us hesitate to share our successes, fearing we'll come across as boastful. We've all seen those who overdo it and we're keen to avoid being lumped in with them. But, is modesty holding us back?
Here's an eye-opening exercise: Tell a friend about a recent success of yours, trying your hardest to sound arrogant. You'll likely find it's harder than you think to even reach a "7" on a 1-10 arrogance scale. If you're naturally modest, chances are slim you'll suddenly turn into those show-offs you try to avoid. 🎭
Remember, "out of sight, out of mind." To be considered for promotions or pivotal projects, you need to be visible to decision-makers. This doesn't mean bragging without cause but strategically sharing your achievements. If you receive positive feedback, why not ask for it to be shared with your boss? Or when you accomplish something noteworthy, why not share your learnings proactively? By enriching your network with valuable insights, you success will be known indirectly.
Results alone are not enough, make sure to invest the extra time to advertise and showcase your achievements. Hard Work Got You Here, Heart Work Gets You Further💖
