Hard work doesn’t speak for itself. People need to see you as a leader.
I recently coached a client in R&D. She’d been at her company for 4 years and expected to be promoted after returning from maternity leave. Instead, she was passed over.
Why? Because people still saw her as the young postdoc she once was.
In our session, we explored why visibility matters:
• Promotions aren’t just about hard work—they’re about perception. • Your manager isn’t the only one who needs to see your value.
At first, she resisted this idea. It didn’t align with how she wanted the system to work. But now, she’s taking steps to increase her visibility—and position herself as a leader.
